We have a vision of equal educational opportunity for all young people across the world, as we believe that education is a key to breaking the poverty cycle.
We believe that educated, empowered and motivated communities are better able to change their future.
Oaktree works in partnership with local organisations in developing communities to create and deliver development projects focused on education. This ensures that our projects directly address some of the immediate needs facing the communities in which we work.
We fundraise to support our development projects, ensuring that thousands of young people have greater access to education. Fundraising is one way for supporters to meaningfully contribute to the vision of the organisation. We aim for all our operational costs to be covered by corporate sponsorship so that every penny raised by our supporters goes directly to our projects.
We advocate on behalf of the worlds' poor because we acknowledge that change has to occur on a global and systemic level if poverty is going to be eradicated. In the UK we focus on lobbying government and raising awareness of issues within the general public, focusing in particular on young people.
At Oaktree we believe in young people. We recognise that our generation has the potential to see real lasting change in the lives of millions of disadvantaged people.
However, unlike other organisations, we entrust our entire operational structure to young people. Oaktree volunteers have the opportunity to lead and be involved in every aspect of Oaktree's work.
From forming a school group, to working with our partner organisations, through to leading the international organisation, Oaktree provides real opportunities for young people to create positive change in our world.
Oaktree was established in Melbourne, Australia, in 2003. It grew quickly, as young leaders founded state teams across Australia with offices in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane.
The founder's vision and commitment were recognised when he was awarded Young Australian of the Year 2004, and the JCI Young Person of the World Award in 2005.
Now young leaders are joining together across the globe to create a truly international movement of young people building a better world.
Over the last 4 years Oaktree has invested over AU$1,000,000 in its education projects for young people in six developing countries to provide more than 40,000 young people with increased educational opportunities.
More than 8,000 young Australians have been inspired to volunteer with Oaktree.
