The Oaktree Foundation (UK): Oaktree Development Projects
We have a vision of equal educational opportunity for all young people across the world, as we believe that education is a key to breaking the poverty cycle.
We believe that educated, empowered and motivated communities are better able to change their future.
Recognising our strengths as young people lie in fundraising and advocacy, in our development projects we work through local partner organisations whose community knowledge and development experience places them in the best position to identify needs and implement projects that make a lasting difference.
The projects we support have three core pillars: young people, education and sustainability.
Oaktree UK in Rwanda
In Rwanda we are currently designing the first project that Oaktree UK will support with local community education organsiations.
Rwanda is infamous for the genocide that took place in 1994, sometimes seen as Africa's worst genocide in modern times. Now Rwanda is striving to rebuild their economy, see their children access education, and lift from below the poverty line the two-thirds of the population who currently live on less than $1 a day.
Rwanda is a country of vision, hope and forgiveness. It is also a country of young people: with over fifty per cent of the population aged under 18 the education of this generation will determine their future in the most significant of ways.
Oaktree UK has the opportunity to be part of this vision, investing in a project which will see young people in their communities empowered through access to a quality education.
Our oneday campaign this summer will raise the funds to support this project.
